We know many of you are fully capable of finding your way to Block Island, but we figure the more information the better.

BY BOAT

Block Island is located 13 miles south off the coast of Rhode Island. The easiest way to get to the island is by ferry from Point Judith, Rhode Island or New London, Connecticut. There are also ferries with limited schedules from Newport, Rhode Island, and Montauk, New York (the Fall River ferry does not begin service until June 25th). Note: It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to travel to the Point Judith Ferry Terminal (304 Great Island Road, Narragansett, RI) without traffic. Make sure you allot plenty of time to get down to Point Judith being cognizant of Boston and Providence traffic.

The island is fairly manageable without a car, but if you are considering bringing one over, Point Judith is the only ferry offering car service (roundtrip service for cars is approximately $100 and reservations are competitive so be sure to book the first week in January if you want to bring a car).

For the seamen/seawomen, if you'd like to bring your boat out to the island for the weekend, there are several options for docking and mooring boats below. Block Island has two harbors - Old Harbor is located on the East Side of the island near the town center and has limited space for dockage and anchoring through Old Harbor Dock. New Harbor is located on the West Side of the Island within Great Salt Pond. New Harbor has 100 town moorings and anchorage for 1000 yachts. Both Champlin's Marina and the Block Island Boat Basin are located in New Harbor.
